I had opened a bug track for this issue and was not able to reply before it
was closed.
I'm trying to sync a variety of files in different locations on my system
(commonly used files) to a second location. I'm not sure how to exclude a
bunch of folders while at the same time syncing the occasional file in the
same folders. The instructions state a file has to satisfy both the include
and exclude criteria. My files fit in the exclude criteria (based on the
folder) so they are not synced.
I would prefer not to create a very long list of path names and files to
exclude that do not include the files I want to sync.
Using filters to include files

Your requirement is then "exlude a number of directories, except for a few
stray subfiles".
This cannot be handled by a single filter (with it's definition of "matching"
:= included && !excluded). However you can use multiple folder pairs, namely
specify the same pair twice, but use different local filters.
