help on versioning

I have selected versioning / time stamp file and am sending old versions to a folder on my NAS - this works much better than windows file history !!!
I cant find what these boxes are for ....

I have set the first one to 365 days in the hope that it will keep the files for a year.... or are they kept until I delete them ?
If so then what are the functions of the boxes?

but it does not discuss much about the purpose of Minimum/Maximum ....

Just check box simply enables that option. Min/max are the number of versions to keep, obviously max must be equal to or larger than minimum. And yes, it will keep them for 365 days in your picture, then remove the versions that are >365 days old.
