Flash Drives NOT write protected

I recently updated FreeFileSync on my Windows 10 machine, and now it seems to think that all of my USB flash drives are write protected and refuses to update them, even though they are NOT actually write protected (I can write to them just fine from Windows Explorer). My entire generally dependable backup system depends on a solution to this maddening problem. Thanks.

At what point does FFS notify you that your flash drives are write protected & what is the exact message that you get?

@xCsXXenon: The same thing has happened to me several times when FFS has updated. This most recent time, I struggled with other approaches for a couple of days but finally gave up and reinstalled the previous version (having kept the installation file on hand, just in case), and now it seems to be working just fine as before. I am *very* reluctant to try the latest update again.
@therube: FFS notifies me that my flash drives are write protected when I click the "Synchronize" button. I am able to run the comparison, but not to fix the files that are out of date. Since I've got it working right now (with the previous version, as above), I can't trigger the error to get the wording exactly right, but the message is always something to the effect that it can't write the first file on the update list, because the media is write protected -- which it never is, because I use my flash drives for file backups and don't write protect them.
