Hi,
I want to see if FreeFileSync is a good solution for a consulting client...
Background:
1. They have a few non-technical users on laptops who roam around and sometimes connect to the network.
2. The users store stuff on the Desktop of the laptop.
3. When a laptop breaks or they switch to a new laptop it's a PITA to restore their desktop.
4. We have limited ability to change users' behavior..
Solution?
5. Make a batch file that detects when they are on the network and then runs FFS to sync the current user Desktop folder to a network location\%user%.
6. Set the Task Scheduler to run this periodically.
7. When they go to a new computer the Desktop stuff would be restored.
Does that seem like a good solution?
Thanks!
Mark

Sure. If using "Mirror", make sure to restore the data to the new computer before setting up the backup again or the new empty desktop with mirror and delete the backup. You could also use "two-way", which would be my suggestion, so you can just set up FFS on a new device and have it "restore" automatically. The only consequence is that someone/something putting data in the backup location, accidentally or purposely, will transfer it to the users desktop.
Also, back up your backups and use versioning
