I keep getting Windows Error 5: access denied every time I try synchronize 2
computers.
The error happens when trying to copy a file from the remote PC in the "base"
PC.
I even manually deleted every connections with NET USE /delete and recreated
them.
If I use the regular shell or explorer I can copy, rename, delete files just
fine on both the computers from both the computers. I connect as admin users
on both computers, I started this app both as regular user, as administrator
or as runas=>administrator but it won't help.
Is there some log or whatever that we can activate to show you what's going
on?

I downloaded another program called TreeComp from Nonags.com and it's
synchronizing the computers just fine right now.
But I vastly prefer yours so if you could fix it...

Could you post the full error message and describe what specific network
scenario you have and tell in which particular situations this happens?.

Well, the full error message is just the basic Error 5. I am syncing between
two Win XP SP3 computers, one in a domain and the other is not. By accessing
from the domain PC to the other as one of the users of the other I should have
no problems (in fact the other file sync program works just fine) but with
FFSync it creates a lock file on the non domain PC then shows the message and
exists (without deleting the lock file). If I do any operation in manual or
use the other program, it works though.
The PCs are on a TCP/IP network, same subnet (they are actually nearby).

Could you please still post the full error message? I need to know exactly
what kind of message is shown at which step in the process. A screenshot would
be even better.

Hi
I have the exact same issue.
I'm using version 3.11(just downloaded it).
Here is the message I get:
Error copying file permissions:
"C:\Documents and Settings\me\Desktop\BlahBlah\MyFile.xls" ->
"H:\Folder_Sync\ MyFile..xls"
Windows Error Code 5: Access is denied.
In my situation, MyFile.xls is either missing or out of date on H:.
H: is my personal shared drive in the Domain (so only me can access it).
Any action with FreeFileSync on the same computer works fine. The issue occurs
as soon as it needs to write outside of the computer, using my credential.
I can copy the file manually through the windows explorer.
And using the Automatic Synchronize option in FreeFileSync creates the
sync.ffs_db file on both drives.

Addendum: if the file is out of date on the H: drive, then FreeFileSync
removes it, and then I get the error about the copy.

This is some "missing admin rights" or "missing privileges" error.
Unfortunately Windows isn't very talkative about what the problem is (just
"access denied"). Maybe you are not aware of it, but you have checked "copy
file permissions" in global settings. When using windows explorer to copy
files, permissions are not transfered at all, therefore it's working via
explorer without problems.

This definitely solved my issue. I unchecked both global settings "Copy locked
files" and "Copy filesystem permissions" and now everything is working as
expected.
Maybe the fact that both require full Administrator rights should be shown
directly in the dialog, not only in the popup shown when you mouse over the
check boxes. Because this has a huge impact on FreeFileSynv ability to work on
network drives.
Thanks for your help and this really good application.
