Oops! I just saw the 8.3 version and installed it. These are working now. I guess we crossed paths and I spoke to soon... my bad!The macros have changed in version 8.3. The online help file always corresponds to the latest FreeFileSync release.Zenju

Help File Error?
The FFS Help file shows the environment variable for the right side of the grid as
%item_path2%... (See Attachment) it does NOT seem to work!
The pop-up when placing the mouse over the “Command Line” area on the "Macro Options" screen shows %item2_path% and it seems to work as expected.

Re: Environment (Macro) Variables
A %base_folder_path% doesn't make sense to show in the folder drop down list. I think you simply want to start an external application and pass %base_folder_path%, %base_folder_path2% commands that are substituted by the current folder pair. If not, can you give a concrete example of what you want ...

Re: Environment (Macro) Variables
So you basically want some %base_folder_path% macro and not the full %item_path%?
If that is what appears in the pull-down area of the UI (User Interface) Grid in FFS, Then YES! But I would like to have one for the source pull-down and one for the Target pull-down. These would be very handy when ...

Re: Environment (Macro) Variables
Do you want to transfer the macro from a calling .bat file to FreeFileSync or from FreeFileSync to an external application started from its main dialog?

Environment (Macro) Variables
I have been trying to find a way to reference the FFS source path and FFS target path in a DOS BAT (batch) file. These are the ones displayed in the FFS UI grid,
When I try to define them in the BAT file it does not carry over so that I can use them in another Macro or another BAT file.
Would it ...

Re: How to indicate FFS has completed
Just minimize FFS to the notification area during sync. The first time you do this, the icon quickly flashes and is then removed forever, unless you make it visible again as described above. This is the Windows 7 (and above) design and AFAIK there is no way to permanently show the notification area ...

Re: How to indicate FFS has completed
So how do you get FFS to use the "Notification Area" the first time?Applications are not shown in this list unless they've used the notification area at least once.Zenju

Re: How to indicate FFS has completed
Why not use the normal FFS progress dialog which waits when finished?
Alternatively, just make the FFS notification area icon visible so you'll know the sync has finished when the icon vanishes: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-how-icons-appear-in-the-notification-area

Re: Just copy files from one directory
I have spent a few hours getting RE-familiar with the Windows DOS commands.
I created a BAT (Batch) file but there is an easier way to do what you want.
Setup Procedures:
1. While in FFS select “Tools/Options”
2. On the next open Macro line type the following on the right-hand side…

Re: Just copy files from one directory
Once you have the files in the new target location…
1. Just set up a new target path and do a regular comparison.
[You can exclude the files/folders on the source side that you do not want to include. See the Filter function (F7).]
2. Save the comparison (Save as...) and it will be available for ...

See the “Copy to” option.
Free File Sync File Copy Procedure:
1. Highlight (select) all of the files you want to copy.

Thanks! That really helps to understand the reasoning.

Finding Files?
How do i find/search for a specific file?
Pressing "ctrl-F" does bring up a search box but what are the rules for searching?
I can not find any help in the in the F1 help Manual.
The old DOS wild card indicators (*, ?) do not seem to be recognized as such.
Does anyone have a better guess than that?
