Ah, my version was 8 years old so I missed the cutoff. As I said 'not broke, don't fix it'. Could have at least had a warning of the usual 'if upgrading from a version older than neolithic, do the following' type.

I managed to fix it my looking at the new XML format and bodging the old one.

Upgrading config files from ancient FreeFileSync

It's a wonderful program which I have used for years, but I stupidly decided to upgrade to a newer version (I know, I know, if it ain't broke ..) and all my ffs_gui etc files no longer scan .. because the XML format has been changed.

<Comparison> turned into <Compare>, <LocalFilter> turned into ...

Re-introducing the versioning limit is in planning. What specific kind of limit would you like to see for your scenario?

I'm just installing it to replace 'second copy' which seems to be (paid for!) abandon-ware these days, and the one thing I miss is version limiting. Some way to prune by age ...

Donating worked OK for me, although the first time my browser didn't seem to want to go to paypal.com at all.
Mind you, I downloaded the 'free' version first, and AVG kindly caught, and stripped out, the adware references (.ocx file) for me, so I didn't need the virus free link.
