Finder is not 'reporting' anything – how could it? So there is nothing to 'compare.'
I provided all the output from FFS in generalized form and also a specific copy-paste.
I don't 'expect' 'resolutions' when a software is free and I am not a paying customer – let alone 'miraculous' resolutions ...

Re: "Error Cannot move file Error Code 17" for temp files on backup disk of moved sym-linked subdirs
Well, yes, that is one of the problems.(!) I've just reported what FFS did and did not do.

Re: "Error Cannot move file Error Code 17" for temp files on backup disk of moved sym-linked subdirs
The source side of it is also definitely a folder (with files in it). Same with all the other sym-linked subdirs for which this error occurs.

Filter Panel: Include and Exclude subdirs
In Synchronization Settings -> Filter, you have to manually type in the Include and Exclude subdirs. It would be nice to be able to click a 'Browse' button and choose the subdirs from the files browser, same as one does on the main GUI.

Re: "Error Cannot move file Error Code 17" for temp files on backup disk of moved sym-linked subdirs
Thanks for the reply. Sure, but first a correction.
1. The error message does not suggest 'it is moving a file called "[subdir-name];' it specifies that it is moving file named '[subdir-name].033e.ffs_tmp;' i.e. file's name is name of a subdir plus dot-something tagged on to it.
2. Okay, here is ...

"Error Cannot move file Error Code 17" for temp files on backup disk of moved sym-linked subdirs
To free up space on my local drive I moved some infrequently used subdirs with a large size from my home-dir to an external drive and sym-linked those dirs to my home-dir with the same name as previously.
In FFS ‘Update->’ setup I had selected the option to follow directory sym-links.
When I to took ...

Re: Plain-Jane Incremental Backups and "Update right item"
Just to correct myself. What I wrote about restoring and restore is irrelevant and does not apply to FFS as the way it does backups is not incremental backups on successive branches off the baseline backup, but keeps the backup directory itself up-to-date and current, while optionally archiving out ...

Re: Plain-Jane Incremental Backups and "Update right item"
Lady Fitzgerald and Zenju, first, I hope you shall not misinterpret me or my motives ('condescending', 'futile', etc.) or get into a tussle to try to prove who is right.
Lady Fitzgerald's posts are spot on; thank you for entering this discussion; and Zenju, as the author of the utility, thank you ...

Re: Plain-Jane Incremental Backups and "Update right item"
Gianni1962, Just because this utility has 'Sync' in the name does not mean it is exclusively that. Do you think that the utility named 'Preview' in Mac is only a preview utility and must not be used for any other purpose?
In any event I hope you don't have a problem if I use it as a backup utility.

Oops – and not even only 'Update >' and 'Versioning' , but 'Update >' and 'Versioning' and timestamp macro.
