Re: Flat versus tree file structure

It's a shame because apart from that, there is not one other Sync tool out there that combines blazing speed, ease of use and a friendly GUI like FFS. You could try Beyond Compare by Scooter Software. It doesn't have the advanced configuration features that FFS does, but it does a reasonable job co...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure

After much discussion and consternation over this issue, I finally resolved myself to accept "the way we roll here", and have relenquished trust, assuming that the file selection process works the way it's supposed to. I have given up analyzing the data shown in the output screens, and ass...

[Feature Request] Compressed/Encrypted output to target volume

Hello, This may have been considered before, but perhaps worth bringing up again: Would it be feasable to introduce an option to compress and encrypt target files and directories without having to use BitLocker or VeraCrypt (etc)? For example, pass all output files and directories through a pipe, su...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure

Being of a trusting nature, I tried 11.4 thinking that perhaps by some miracle it would be better than 10.24. After one screenfull of total confusion about what the changes were between left and right window panes, I am now switching back to 10.24. I gave it the benefit of a doubt, but doubt turned ...

Re: Extra devices show up in my FFS allotment (licensing)

Thank you Zenju, The old Windows 7 device has disappeared, but there are still two Windows 10 devices in the list, and I don't know which is the active one. If I mark both as removed, and then reinstall the software, will my Session configuration files be preserved, or am I going to have to reload t...

Extra devices show up in my FFS allotment (licensing)

Hello, I just upgraded my OS to Windows 10. (I know... I know... bad idea.) Well, what's done is done. At least I can run Turbotax again. When I visit the FFS Home Page to check my status, I see that I have consumed 3 FFS device allowances: Screenshot_2020-11-03 FreeFileSync.png Rolling over with th...

Custom Notification Sounds disappear upon reinstallation

Hello, This is no big deal, but I thought you should be aware of it. I like to replace the default Notification sounds with my own. However, when I reinstall FFS, these sounds disappear and I have to reconfigure them. Note that the globalSettings file is correct. However, the Resources directory app...

Is 11.1 supposed to have addressed the view issue? I apologize for being negative, but ... IT IS WORSE THAN IT EVER WAS! What is the problem? Why not just restore the old 10.24 code and enable these new crazy whitespace views and confusing representations as options that can be selected if desired? ...

Re: ffs_tmp files - cannot be written - whut?

I've seen various ffs_tmp errors at times in 2 different scenarios: 1) (as Plerry just said) The security ACLs or rights are not permissive enough in the destination folder or specific files. Windows security settings can get out of whack, and Microsoft doesn't provide any easy to use templates or t...

Re: Sync a big folder with multiple subfolders by filename

You could experiment with creating multiple pairs, varying the Include and Exclude filters. Set Include to select a set of files based on a wildcard, and Exclude to omit any files within that set that you don't want to copy. Depending upon how many destination folders you have to configure this way,...

Re: Sync a big folder with multiple subfolders by filename

If I understand the issue correctly, I think this is not what any synchronization or backup program is supposed to do, which is to preserve order and enable recovery. Your destination is organized in some ad-hoc fashion without clear rules where files should be placed, nor where they would be restor...

Re: Messed up timestamps

In conclusion, I think that given the amount of time the Freecom drive has been in service, there was plenty of opportunity for some undetected event to cause the problem. I am 80% confident it was an unsafe removal; 10% confident that some buggy utility wrangled the metadata, and 10% confident that...

Hi again Woody, Perhaps there was a glitch as you described. Since it would be almost impossible to reproduce an error like this, it's all speculation. Re: Request: Enable/Disable Folder Pairs in a ffs_gui

Hi Sam, This might be a little easier because you don't have to delete anything, and it doesn't disrupt the list: You could try to use the synchronization settings funnel filter to change the Include/Exclude filter for each pair. In the middle column, click on the funnel. (NOT the big funnel at the ...

Re: Messed up timestamps

Woody, Perhaps one time, after the files were updated, the drive was removed from the XP system without using "Safe Removal". Is the File System NTFS? I wonder if it used to be FAT32, and you used an old version of the Microsoft "CONVERT" command to convert from FAT32 to NTFS, an...

Hi, Any software that modifies dates/times would be suspect. Performing a comparison and seeing a bunch of white space with vertical lines, wondering where they lead ...

Re: Flat versus tree file structure

Flat view with a horizontal scrollbar is good. Why is it neccessary to fill the panels up with whitespace when there is a deep directory structure or long pathnames? When I view the results of a compare, I like to see where I am, not be left wondering in some esoteric cloudy white space.

You could be right; perhaps I am paranoid. However many of these alleged search engine crawlers are spoofed because all they have to do is create fake USER_AGENT and REFERRER server variables to get past basic security measures. Many ignore robots.txt. Recently, bots pretending to be Baidu and Yande...
