My apologies for the long hiatus; my family-caregiver duties have been even more demanding recently.
To cut to the chase, this appears to have been a Windows 10 issue. Having gotten fed up with accidental disconnects with my external USB backup drives, I began using a 16-port USB 3.0 hub, and ...

Re: Huge increase in time required to parse batch jobs if Windows has been running for a while
A quick but important update:
First, I've been accumulating more data sets on my spreadsheet (and more columns for more non-FFS things my FFS slowdowns might correlate with).
Second, I very recently made a couple of fluke observations that might obviate the need for testing very much longer:

Thanks for the tips about timers and determining uptime. (I used a CLI utility called Gammadyne Timer for the timer and just looked at Task Manager > Performance > CPU > bottom panel for the uptime!)

Re: Huge increase in time required to parse batch jobs if Windows has been running for a while
First, I created two Windows command scripts and two voidtools Everything GUI search strings that list the contents of the 62 folders in my 31-folder-pair batch job (the biggest batch job I'm currently using). In each pair, one lists folders and subfolders only, and the other lists folders ...

I'm not a programmer, unfortunately, so I don't have a very good idea of how to systematically look for bottlenecks when performance issues like this come up. That said, I do have some newish observations:

INTERIM UPDATE:
I don't yet have enough data points to say much useful about GDI handles, other than that my "big" batch job seems to show a little over 500 handles for FreeFileSync x64 in Process Explorer shortly after a computer reboot, and, other things being equal, over 1500 handles when the ...

Huge increase in time required to parse batch jobs if Windows has been running for a while
I've made a somewhat bizarre observation over the past few months, running my standard backup batch jobs from FreeFileSync's GUI. Let me explain:

Re: freature request: allow donator download old versions.
I think this is a worthy suggestion. I have had to "downgrade" to an older version of FreeFileSync twice so far: once because of a change in where log files could be saved, and once because of a significant increase in lags and hangs when a new configuration was selected in the more recent versions ...

Thanks, Zenju. I apologize for not spotting this in earlier posts. There's an easy fix for false-positives in SUMo, once you're certain that the flagged program is in fact up to date, and your earlier posts confirm that it is.

11.8 Windows Installer Issue: Please update FFS and RTS exes in "parent folder" to 11.8 dated 2021-03-03
After FFS 11.8 for Windows is installed, the FFS and RTS executables in the Bin subfolder are properly identified as version 11.8.0.0 dated 2021-03-03, but the referring executables in the parent folder are still identified as version 11.7.0.0 dated 2021-03-01.

Re: Add "enable/disable folder pair" option for each folder pair in a batch job
To put it more accurately and safely, just click the minus symbol next to the folder pair you want to disable, and do NOT accidentally save changes to the modified batch job when you're done. If you don't maintain backups of your FFS batch jobs, this is actually a little risky. Additionally, if you ...

I don't understand how I could have overlooked that setting! Maybe it's because I usually edit the GlobalSettings.xml file directly and never noticed the NotificationSound tag. Regardless, this will make my batch-job troubleshooting less tedious and more efficient, so thank you!

Sound an alert when manual "Compare" has completed in FFS GUI
Running a manual "Compare" in a batch job with lots of files can take a long time on older/underpowered computers with big mechanical hard drives. (I've had Compares that took nearly ten minutes to complete.) When that's the case, users will usually want to switch to some other task while the ...

No, I'm pretty sure that one of the changes in 10.6 has had an unanticipated, unwanted side effect and that folders with identical paths that are on different drives are mistakenly being identified as being on the same drive.
