OK, I have a solution. Apparently it is because the computers were connected through sftp, and sftp doesn't handle symlinks too well.

Hi, the manual says there's an ftp configuration dialog that pops up after clicking the cloud icon, but I cant find either. Where is the ftp dialog? Where is the cloud icon?
Using version 10.6 on linux
