Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Dji, have you tried 6.6? It has fixed it for me.

Jim.

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Hi Zenju - I just tried the 6.6 beta. It started up fine and ran my usual sync operations. But it always runs fine at first. So I will see tomorrow if it is still ok.

Thanks for the help,
Jim.

EDIT: I have used this a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, all looking good, phew. Thanks.

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Hi Zenju - haven't used that before, nice tool though. Wasn't sure what to show, so just tried to put everything in there. If you want something different from it or something more specific, feel free to ask.

Thanks, Jim.

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

OK - I'm afraid the issue is back again, just tried to run it again for the first time since those succesful runs four days ago. (Maybe it is a date thing - i.e. works for a day?). It was a local installation, so I presume the file is the one in the FreeFileSync install dir? I can open it fine in ...

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Hi Zenju - thanks for the reply - sorry but I just got back to this thread - I'll try the 6.5 Beta now and get back to you.

EDIT: OK - looking really good, I ran it, it worked fine. Stopped it - reran it, worked fine - rebooted and ran it again, all good.

If I come across the issue again, I'll ...

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

OK - just to keep thread up to date, issue is back. 6.4 worked for that first run, and now the issue is back again. Can't startup due to the same error mentioned earlier. I can see the file, I've even allowed everyone full access to it. Noone else is using the file.

I give up for now - *may* try ...

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Hi Bob - Thanks for the reply. I was actually installing this on Windows. But maybe the same principle applies. Maybe it is a UAC issue. I notice a few other people are seeing it too.

Anyway - I tried out 6.4 (portable installation) and problem is gone for now. Phew :)

Re: An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Hi Stefan - I'll try 6.4 and send an update - Thanks, Jim.

EDIT: No 6.4 on sourceforge yet? I found an alternative anyway, not as nice, but it suffices. I'll keep an eye out for newer versions and maybe try them out.

An exception occurred: Cannot open file "GlobalSettings.xml".

Hi,
Things had been working for me until I upgraded to 6.3 but now FFS just does not start. It displays a dialog with the aforementioned message with the information: "Error Code 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (CreateFile)"

Details: Windows 7 ...
