So, your problem is not the location RTS by default saves the *.ffs_real configuration file, because you are able to save it elsewhere.

I'm running into an error trying to save a RTS configuration and having it remember where the file is saved. RTS wants to save to /usr/share/freefilesync directory, but that is a protected folder and even with sudo you can't gain access to save a data file for RTS to use on reboot. Google says:

RTS monitors whatever is listed to be monitored. You can have RTS monitor locations that may or may not be present in the FFS sync configuration

This is correct, GDrive will not work with RTS. granted, RTS doesn't work with the client program either, as you experienced. For what it's worth, I use RTS to monitor OneDrive local directories fine without issue.

OK, thanks. I guess it was some other property of google, the key is I stopped log file repeats by monitoring a level above it. I'm very happy with FFS/RTS now and it's so fast.

Its monitoring a few paths but one is my local copy of Google Drive so I wonder if there's some hidden Google Sync file triggering RTS. I'll try disabling that path and see what happens. I have tested FFS RTS unattended monitoring with help from a program called rclone. It let's you map a local drive letter to your Google Drive. This way RTS works because it sees a local drive, not cloud.

Neither SFTP, nor Google drive support directory monitoring.

That is also the message you should get.
RTS should still do a fine job in monitoring for, and detecting local changes ...

So when RTS adds the destination folders to the list of folders to be monitored, it still triggers a mirror of the source location to the destination location. That makes perfect sense, and the example provided is excellent for helping conceive of when ...

I had not tried RTS. It is the best. In my case I use bidirectional linux and batch and since there is no official google drive client for linux I will start using RTS instead. It's perfect
