Re: Does changing source volume name break "detect moved files" (MacOS)?
Can't find any concrete info on what that directory is used for, so it probably has no need to be backed up. I would exclude it. It's definitely a system file location, and FFS isn't a good option for system backup/restore anyway

Re: Error Invalid Parameter
The timestamp on the original file is probably corrupt/broken and contains a date outside the range that FAT can support. This means copying the file to the FAT location will lose the timestamp and set it to the current date/time, which may result in FFS detecting it as out-of-sync with the source o...

Re: How to deal with *Extra Files and directories
If you are renaming/moving files, FFS can detect that and avoid duplicating the file on the destination. FFS isn't a duplicate finder though, so make sure you are renaming/moving the file(s), not copying them.

Re: How to deal with *Extra Files and directories
You should just use FFS from the get-go then, as it can detect files that are moved/renamed instead of creating duplicates

Re: Does changing source volume name break "detect moved files" (MacOS)?
You should have run a sync before changing the name. Then, the moves/renames would have been detected as such, and then the matching operation would be performed on the destination rather than a delete-then-recopy. If you had done that, you could have changed the name to "Downloads", then ...

Maybe there is a lack of consistency but I have it installed on six devices without issues, and others are only reporting a warning once they get to 10 installs...Well no. I get three installs. DeirdreYoung, 04 Mar 2024, 20:03

For donation edition, you may not even need to uninstall it. You will probably be fine just installing it on the new computer

Switch the exclusion to '*\AppData\"
or "\Users\%username%\AppData\"
Your current setting is excluding "\Users\Appdata\" which doesn't exist

Yes, the executable itself was not locked, but it was the one locking the file. It's an Nvidia feature to do stuff, but it requires saving data into a temp file, which is what you are seeing.

Re: how does unchecking a checkbox differ from do nothing?
1) Basically the same as far as I can tell. Possibly an older layout may have provided a more prominent use case for the checkboxes 2) Can't you just run the sync? Then the modification times would be the same. Or you could use RoboCopy: https://freefilesync.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10823 Or if the...

Re: Recovering Files from Recycle Bin
FFS shouldn't be leaving any temporary recycle bin folders, FFS deletes to the "Recycle Bin" that Windows uses, if set to do so. Don't check the actual recycle bin folders on the drive itself, check the Windows "Recycle Bin", which shows all contents of every recycle bin connected

Re: trouble installing the setup.exe & setup.key
Don't extract to the Program files folder, that it not how you install programs onto a computer. You extract/unzip the compressed folder you download, then run the exe inside the extracted folder. When you unzip it, just set the location to be where the original zip is

Don't install anything to do this, it's very easy to Google how to set up a network share on both macOS and Windows. Share the folders that you want other computers to be able to access, then either map them to a drive letter in Windows or mount them on macOS to use as if they were directly connecte...

Another sync config that mirrors the network location to the local location? Then anything deleted from the network location will be deleted from the local copy when ran. Or another location pair the syncs MASTER to LOCAL in the same configuration that syncs MASTER to NETWORK

Re: Is there any exclude and include within the excluded feature?
And yes, it can be complicated if you are constantly adding/removing folders, because then the filter needs to be changed just as often. But, if the folders are relatively static and only the content inside them changes much, then you don't have to worry about chasing it down. You could also put the...

Well, the 'second pair' isn't a whole other configuration, you can have a single FFS config sync multiple pairs. Then it's still a single action to sync everything

Re: Transferring huge amounts of data (170TB)
https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#limitations If you have a GB of RAM free, you should be fine. Files added during the sync won't be transferred by FFS until another comparison/sync is performed. You could put put them in readonly mode, or simply run another sync to catch any remnants. It seems odd t...
