Re: FreeFileSync restores deleted files at the target directory

In filesystem like NTFS, each file have a file ID, reside inside the MFT file record of each file, no matter how you change or move the file on the same NTFS volume, the file ID would remain the same. FreeFileSync use the file ID provided by the filesystem and store it into the database file sync.f...

Not directly. But when you go to "Shared with me" while logged in with your Google Drive account, then right-click "Organize -> Add to starred", the folder will be accessible from FreeFileSync.

FreeFileSync already did the assessment about two months ago, and... it passed! I'm surprised myself!

No, FFS will store the DB files in the left and right folders that are selected on the main dialog.

There should be two sync.ffs_db files, one in each left and right folder. If not, the warning comes up.

The MAC address is not transferred online, but it is used to generate a unique "hardware id". This is documented in the privacy policy: https://freefilesync.org/privacy.php

Re: Why is 1 file wanting to be deleted from the Source?

" .ffs_tmp" files are a special case: They "belong" to FreeFileSync. If a new run finds them remnant from a previous sync, they will be unconditionally and permanently be deleted as a cleanup. See "fail-safe file copy".

Re: Install runtime error

Looks like anti virus software is blocking the installation.
Bitdefender is one such culprit.

BTW: FreeFileSync doesn't use .NET and the installer doesn't care about UAC being enabled or not (it does require admin rights, though).

Re: Where does the exported file list go?

Although I'm not in need of this today , I agree the Export is useful I'm wondering: Who is in need for a file list export in first place? Why is this a useful feature to keep in FreeFileSync, rather than remove it to simplify the GUI? In its current form the "export file list" seems more...

Re: FTPS transfers VERY slow

The problem is that for "multiple threads" to boost transfer times your sync has to process multiple files. If there is only one file, multiple threads does nothing. FileZilla on the other hand splits up a single file into multiple uploads, which is a feature FreeFileSync does not have (at...

Re: FTP Timeout when sync bigger files

Thanks dklev! I've made a few tests and observations: 1. the timeout of the FTP control connection occurs for uploads that take longer than 120 seconds 2. it's the FritzBox FTP server that silently terminates the FTP control connection at this time, but doesn't stop the FTP data connection from stil...

Re: Licensing recommendation to me for 13+ version

Good consideration... That only applies if you are using someone else's open source code in your own project. Correct. And FreeFileSync does not use other GPL-licensed code. But that does still mean the standard version can be used commercially if it's licensed with GPL That's a big if ! It should ...

Re: Fileid vs ObjectID for NTFS

Let's see...
File object IDs are supported only on NTFS volumes

But for NTFS we have:
In the NTFS file system, a file keeps the same file ID until it is deleted

Ergo:
Object ID = useless
File ID = perfect as persistent file identifier (on NTFS).
