Automatic shortening of file names when syncing

Hey everyone,
I am on a Mac, trying to sync a drive to my Synology NAS. Since the NAS is encryted, it has narrow limitations concerning the length of the file name. Is there a way to sync my files with automatic shortening of the file name instead of errors for non-syncing files?

And just what are those limitations?
And is it file name only or file name + path?
