Hi,
I have an external backup NAS (target) which have hundreds of folders. I have temporary folder (source) on my laptop which contains only last 10-20 folders and new ones that need to be updated on the target. I prefer to use "Update" variant to make a copy on NAS. When I run "compare" it scans all the target folders (while there are no changes in "update" variant). When I'm working on the same network this is not an issue, but when I'm working remotely (via VPN) it is extremely slow.
Why there is a need in "Update" variant to scan all target folders, while I'm expecting only update the last 10-20 folders existing on the source?

Update variant - why need to compare whole target?

FreeFileSync (FFS) is blissfully unaware of your expectation, so it needs to check everything in the scope of the sync. (Besides that: expectations can be deceiving ...)... while I'm expecting only update the last 10-20 folders existing on the source?xurc, 07 Aug 2021, 20:31
What you may be able to do, is to limit the scope of your FFS sync, e.g. via the Include or Exclude Filter.

Thanks for the tip. I will go that way. I will also look at other exclude option: older than x days. What you may be able to do, is to limit the scope of your FFS sync, e.g. via the Include or Exclude Filter. Plerry, 08 Aug 2021, 15:17
