Hi,
new here, but not to FreeFileSync which I am using since years.
In general I like it, but I am managing some deployments with it and its really maximal confusing and impossible to follow the structure at a glance.
I wanna highly suggest that each row gets a description field - at least. I don't need to see all the long and often repeating folder-names all the time, especially when roaming-folders are used (useless anyway) but clearly need to see what that row is doing.
Such a project of mine has 50-70 rows, different filters per row and most of it leads to the same FTP. Even on a 4K Monitor I don`t see the end of the path in almost no row. In other words: I see nothing but a mess and have to go through every single row when I wanna figure out (after a while) what it actually does.
That is really a problem.
Besides this: It should be possible to define "macros" for source, filters and targets since the data is extremely redundant as soon as a project becomes just a little bigger.
With FFS its like a hate-love. I used it cuz Im used to it, but the design is horrible. I don't talk about the visual design, I don't care about that, the usability is my focus, cuz also many times I am doing mistakes and destroy targets cuz I cannot see easy enough what each row is doing. And that is not a matter of taste, its a matter of safety.
Maximal confusing and hard to follow

There are notes you can add in the settings for each configuration. With that said, it may not help you. It sounds like your configurations are just waaaay too large to be constructive in your environment. I can't imagine a scenario where 50-70+ rows is a feasible or responsible thing to do.

It is as it is. But what is the alternative solution then? But even with 3-4 rows with repeating long paths you dont understand anymore at a glance what it does.
And regarding FTP ... once I change the password, I have to go through ALL setups manually and change ALL rows of ALL setups manually, cuz there is no preset/macro for FTP credentials. Thats clearly also a problem and not just a very personal wish.

For FTP passwords, I do agree, that sounds annoying. Could you possibly set up a single row to a root FTP folder and use filters to sync the subfolders you want?

Could you post a screenshot? Otherwise it's impossible to know what exactly looks confusing with the current GUI.dont understand anymore at a glance what it does. STT, 14 Oct 2024, 07:09
FFS-specific macros, either global or per-configuration would be a nice feature to add.And regarding FTP ... once I change the password, I have to go through ALL setups manually and change ALL rows of ALL setups manually, cuz there is no preset/macro for FTP credentials. STT, 14 Oct 2024, 07:09
