Hi,
I am not PC literate but have data I need to sync. Hope you can help.

I did a few sync’s on my data file – MYOB Library on PC1 HDD-F to MYOB Library PC2 on HDD-F. The file extension is .myo.

Sync’d the data several times. I then proceeded to sync the data and when it was finished sync it again and then again. In my warped mind the sync “should” have been achieved on the first go and then the subsequent runs would see that the data is unchanged.

Just to be sure…I did not work on the data between sync tasks and this is all I have been doing today.

New Files Time
81 4:52
315
60 2:41
202 11:47
279 15:20
216 completed with errors

MYOB Library to MYOB Library foxint, 18 Oct 2024, 03:07
Basically, I have run the same sync all day without changing any files on the HDD and it still takes 20 plus minutes to sync and my revision folder continues to grow.

My understanding - please correct me as I am no PC person - is that one does a sync, the results in the target drive being exactly the same as the source drive. Therefore if the sync is then run again and there is no change in the drive, then there is no sync.

But in my case, when I do the next sync, it is as if there has been no sync or somehow the programme sees changes in the data where there should be none.

I am very confused and I have spent days watching you tube and your tutorials and not much makes sense.

Can anyone help?

(PS....not sure what happened to the post I was just trying to edit it.

If you run (just) a Compare, FFS will show the intended sync actions.
The icon in between the left and right item in the Compare result window indicates why FFS thinks it should take the proposed action (based on your Synchronization Settings). Hoovering your mouse over such icon will show the reason in text.

One possible reason for what you describe, is a sync to a machine that is not able to retain file dates of files being copied, or using a protocol that does not support retaining file dates.
During the next Compare, FFS then notices the file dates are different and may want to copy again.

And: I suppose that by "my revision folder continues to grow" you mean the folder you use for Versioning.

HI Plerry
Thank you for the reply.

1. Revision folder is the Versioning.
2. I am using mirroring.
3. I am trying to use all the default setting
4. I have added a retry for errors, as sometimes the other PC is no discoverable.
5. All PC's on the network are connected via cable. NO wi-fi
6. Date issue seems logical - I have no idea how to trouble shoot
7. I will attempt to attach a screen shot. I see the 2 small squares at the bottom middle: showing 2 green arrows both pointing right. LHS has the number 1 and the RHS has the number 355 - now if I am ready this correctly (and I am probably not), it means 1 file/folder is moved to the target drive. BUT....big but why has it take over 16 minutes to complete the sync (so it must be the larger folder) and the Versioning folder has 22 folders containing files with the extension .myo or .myox - FYI these are MYOB Accounting Programme data files.

I suspected that the MYOB may be a problem, so I put them all in the same folder MYOB Library.....BUT....MYOB Library-Old did not get sync'd. So perhaps my hunch is wrong.

HI
I just did another Compare and it says the RHS is newer. Then when I sync, (I think it) says 0 LHS and 365 RHS. Now it is sync'ing and it is suggesting it will be 15 minutes. Meaning the sync I just did resulted in no mirroring at all????

By clicking the Compare result category icons (mid below the list of the compare results), you can toggle the visibility of each category. I suggest you make the 288,653 equal items (the "=" icon) invisible, so you see the items for which the Compare resulted in proposed sync actions (other than "do nothing").
Then hoover your mouse over any of the => icons mid between any of the listed files.

Or that, e.g. due to file-date mismatches, FFS wants copy those 355 files again.
After a sync has finished, you can check the FFS log-file to see what actions FFS took or what warnings were raised (if any). (e.g. by after a sync finished in the FFS GUI using Actions / Show log (F4) ).
Or you can open the log-file in the location where FFS saves it, as set in your Synchronization Settings (F8) (bottom right).

Hi Plerry,

Thank you. But I do not understand a word you wrote.
