Hello. I've used FreeFileSync on my Windows computers for a long time. Today I gave a donation, then put the donation version onto my wife's Windows 11 laptop. When I try to begin creating a "mirror synchronization" set-up, I cannot complete the first step, because the "New" button is grayed-out. If I look under "File", the word "New" is grayed-out there, as well. I have tried opening the program with "open", and also with "Run as administrator". Can anyone suggest how to proceed? Thank you!

If it's greyed out, you are already on a blank template

Hello xCSxXenon,

Thank you! You were right. I got 'er done!

I was trying to follow a YT video, from FFS, and the first step shown was to click on the "New" button. I was trying so hard to "follow the directions" that I didn't open my mind up to other possibilities.

Again... thanks so much! I'm trying to coomplete a backup setup for a wife and for 4 daughters, so I'm looking forward to getting this done. One down and 4 to go! Thanks again!

Same situation as Debra. Have been using Freefilesync for years happily. Now setting it up on a new computer. Ran all perfectly. Then wanted to change the Drive letter to a Drive name, because it is a portable drive. But couldn't figure how to see the drive paths in the existing config. All help files and options are great, but I cant find the very first step: which are the drive paths in the config. Read all help info. Googled. Saw the same YT video Debra refers to. Also found the answer ''you are already on a blank template". I don't exactly understand what that means, my question remains: where are the paths?

So I deleted the existing configurations, hoping to be able to start afresh. But now I cannot even find how to start, to set the paths of the folders I want to compare. I think I tried each button I can find. When I click 'Compare' it says: select the left and right folder". But how??? Sync settings (both the blue and green cogwheel) does not have the paths.

Any suggestion which button I should click to set the drive paths, now the 'New' options are greyed out everywhere? And, when a new config is made, how to see the paths, later on again? Any help is much appreciated!

Ah, for anyone struggling as I did: under 'tools' I found 'Show folder pairs'...
This showed up in a sub window free floating over the interface. There I could set the paths!
Apparently I had accidentally detached this part of the main interface to a floating sub window. And as it was floating in the way, I had closed it, not aware I was closing an essential element of the interface, which would also not show up back again... I hope someone else is helped by this!
