Installation Error code 0x80040154

I got this error while doing an automatic update to my donationware FreeFileSync.

It tells me to reinstall. I've done this multiple ways, e.g., simply installing a new install over the old non-working one. uninstalling and then installing. Uninstalling, re-booting, then installing. Nothing works. I keep getting the same error screen. never had a problem before. Any help appreciated.

Using Windows 11.
