Just set up a new PC and transferred eveything (using WIN10).
[run as administrator] = maybe the reason (NOPE), rant written earlier needed though... imho
---------------------
Set up FreeFileSync the same way as before on Win11 (except kept fail-safe, removed locked, DACL options).
Get a few files copied in and everything hangs. No logs, no event log, FFS just sits there as a doodoo.
Attachment since I cannot figure out how to upload pics to this forum anymore. Long day, win11 and used to discourse and stuff these days...
And while cursing I figured it out... running via batch files and such does not work as things don't run properly as an administrator. Yeah but, there should be SOME indicator this is the reason, permissions/timeouts, whatever. Not being able to open the log, no log gets created, things just sit there... bad. Just saying, if there is no copying actually happening for several minutes... pop up a box going away after a while and re-appearing, UI existing or not.
And sorry if this is already on the forums, found the administrator thing but not this "nothing happens" issue.
(and did my usual switch systems donation so allowed to complain after a long day :D )
Win11, newest version, hangs...

Answering to myself here...
Nope, hung again... so this is because of certain files like exe or something like it. And massive timeouts.
So run as administrator did not actually help, just happened to move one file forward (at the same time?).
This really needs some "real reason" for speed dropping to 0 from FFS.
Done for the night though...

What is S: (what type of device, brand, speed...) ?
Even though the graph shows "0", will the files actually copy, eventually (in some reasonable amount of time)? Or is simply hung & it "just ain't goin' nowhere!"?
If you took that same 1GB file & copied it using Windows Explorer, how does that fare?

Cough, Win8.1 old server which has worked fine until now because everything runs on vmware :) . It's up next in the renew entire infra... :)
Short story: 3T 100MB disk basically at the other end, happy to get 70-80M in a 1G network.
Situation is hung. So bug or Win11.
Copying via File Explorer sharing or even RDC is ok. Not going back to xxcopy here... ;)
And things worked fine doing the same thing from my old WIN10 to the server last night.
Already did some Win11 fixes to get the network 0 speed timeouts away (and no idea if those was win7, win10 or win11 issues). But, lots to learn here if it's win11.
I guess my issue is, having 15T of files copied manually is not fun. Maybe everything corrects once I get the third machine up to WIN11. Having 2-3-4 level backups usually, I really hate having 46 years of data on "maybe" two disc copies. Even did one freefilesync wrong and got down to one copy tonight.

Wait, I don't even have FFS running anymore. I booted. And it screams about network drives.
And I never use realtimesync.
Ok, must be a new setting somewhere I missed...
AND the original problem.

Boy oh boy.
I have the latest version of free file sync running on 2 Windows 11 computers, no problems.. Don't know of any settings that changed in the software that would cause your problems.
Are you getting errors in windows? When windows boots and can't find network drives. or is it only after you load the sync software?
Do you have any saved jobs in the software that refer to network drives that no longer exist?
I also have the sync software running in virtual machines. Using virtual box, not vmware.

It's unlikely that FFS is causing this, but it won't hurt to at least see where the software is hanging (although I'd bet it's inside the Windows file copy routine CopyFileEx): https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#crash

Weird and weirder... WIN11 just updated and now things work better. I both get a log file and files do get copied. Go figure...
Running everything as admin and had to elevate drives showing with regedit but that context thing about drives is old known stuff. Just tossing in the link about it
