Sounds like a Windows issue. It seems there is something blocking your connection to the FFS servers and can't retrieve details regarding the auto update or version details. Try manually updating

So the message looks to be coming from FFS itself rather on an attempted connection to some "cloud" (Google or FTP or the like).

FFS .exe's (Digital Certificates) look OK (from as much as I can make of it).

I take it you have no similar issues with your web browsers?
Might the browsers be using a VPN or similar, where FFS might not necessarily be using same?
(Maybe even using an alternative DNS provider?)

Might AVG be interfering?
Are you able to disable AVG & test? (No clue how to go about that.)

This sounds like it is about the website certificate of freefilesync.org. Perhaps the root certificates on your Windows 7 system have become outdated? Is the certificate chain for this website still up to date (you can check this with firefox)?

No issue on my end, Win7 x64.

When I put Win7 on this machine, I went through the following steps, pretty much in order shown, & aside from "driver" updates (& I started with Win7 SP1 "CD", & again, x64):
1.install.WIN7
2. 2019-03 Servicing Stack Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4490628).TXT
2.windows6.1-kb4490628-x64_d3de52d6987f7c8bdc2c015dca69eac96047c76e.msu
3. 2019-09 Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4474419).TXT
3.windows6.1-kb4474419-v3-x64_b5614c6cea5cb4e198717789633dca16308ef79c.msu
4. May 2016 convenience rollup update.TXT
4.windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_2dafb1d203c8964239af3048b5dd4b1264cd93b9.msu
6. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8.TXT
6.0.ndp48-x86-x64-allos-enu (.NET Framework 4.8 dotnetfx, Win7+).exe
6.1.ndp48-kb4532941-x64_3220ceb5d24711680ceb3dfef6d7847305185ea2 (2020-01 Security and Quality Rollup).exe
11. Updates
11. Select all important updates, except for these updates:
KB890830
KB971033
Uncheck and hide them.
Do not select any optional updates.

12. After the initial list of important updates are installed, restart the computer.
When the "Your Windows 7 PC is out of support" alert appears, click "Don't remind me again".

13. Load Windows Update again, then click "Check for updates".

14. Select all remaining important updates, except for this update:
KB890830
Uncheck and hide it.
Do not select any optional updates.

15. After the second list of important updates are installed, restart the computer.

16. Keep repeating steps #13 and #14 until the January 2020 servicing stack update (KB4536952) appears.
When it does, make sure to select and install it.
This update is required if you plan to set up and configure your computer to keep installing post-ESU updates after January 2020.
