I want to use versioning for a folder and to keep max 5 copies of that folder. I use the maximum function in versioning options. The problem is FFS makes more than 5 folders, probably because it is versioning every file separately in the folder. :-?
I'd want the possibility to use versioning for the folder itself and not for the files in it.
Versioning for the folder itself

FFS doesn't create versions for whole directories and works with files only. Sounds like you want to use something like File History, which is built into Windows

I understand, I suspected that. I think it would be a good thing for this file and folder versioning difference to be mentioned and made clear in Versioning section of the Docs.
I'm not sure if the File History has the same flexibility as FFS and I think the folder versioning would be a beneficial feature in FFS. :)

I wholeheartedly agree with OP on both counts. Backing up only parent directories instead of full path feels counterintuitive. If the system works this way, that should be pointed out specifically in the documentation. Windows file history is no alternative because it can't restore versions of files that have been deleted (AFAIK).

It can, you have to look at the previous versions of the folder instead though. It will show files that have been deletedWindows file history is no alternative because it can't restore versions of files that have been deleted (AFAIK). mahimahi, 15 Nov 2023, 20:45

A year later, I would still need and wish for folder (aka directory) versioning. I think it would make the app complete. It would also be worthy as a paid option.
