Comparison takes too long..

I used to run FFS at 2 am every day and also as needed and it completed very quickly. Three external drives copy from one to two others but lately comparison seems to look as it its going to take ages maybe up to 8 or 9 hours for 33,000 picture files and 15,000 music files. Is that normal? How can I shorten this comparison time . It used to be done in minutes?

Check SMART data of the drives with something like gsmartcontrol. Drives fail all the time

Thanks for that - I did a gsmart test and the drives passed . But I did something and its now speeded up but not sure what I did..! Thanks for your advice..
