can't sync hardrives

Im just trying to do a basic coy of one external hard drive to the other and I keep getting this message:

Cannot set directory locks for the following folders:

Cannot write file "/Volumes/Ace backup/sync.ffs_lock".
ENOSPC: No space left on device [write]

Cannot write file "/Volumes/Kyd Ace ssd/sync.ffs_lock".
EACCES: Permission denied [open]

How do I fix this?

Free up space and set 'write' permissions

neither drive is full and Ive already set permissions
