Hi,

I've used FreeFileSync for years, and it has worked perfectly. Thanks!

Now with the latest version and the latest drivers for nVidia 4070 TI I have this issue. When a synchronization is over, the frame of that window remains on the screen. There is nothing I can do to make it go away, except for restarting the computer.

Not a big issue, but do you recognize this? Not having anything similar with other apps.

You really ought to post your OS and version.

If you are running it on Windows though, you can probably get away with simply restarting Explorer in your task manager. Not a fix but quicker than doing a full restart.

Thank you for your replies. This seems to be the same issue than in that thread. Restarting Explorer in the task manager does not make the "ghost" window go away, only restarting does.

Sorry for not remembering to post the OS. It is Windows 11.

I have another almost identical Windows 11 machine, but this issue is not occurring there, so it must be something very sporadic.

What difference(s) are there between the machines? Different graphics cards?

Are both machines Windows updated identically? Graphics driver updated?

The one that has this issue is branded Lenovo, processor Intel i7, graphics card nVidia RTX 4070 Ti.

The one that does not have it is branded HP Omen, processor AMD Ryzen, graphics card nVidia RTX 3080.

Practically no other differences, the same antivirus etc.

"almost identical Windows 11 machine" and proceeds to list off two computers that are dissimilar in every way besides the OS LOL

Thank you for being that polite. My understanding or at least my theory is that the processor is not causing an issue like this. The graphics drivers have the same nVidia version. The OS is the same as well as all the utility programs such as the antivirus.Do you have a better theory?

xCSxXenon is correct. Other than utilizing the same OS, the two machines have absolutely zero in common. This is the very sort of issue that should be reported as a bug. Instructions for reports are at the link below. Be sure to include every detail of your machine.

https://freefilesync.org/faq.php#feedback

Look under Troubleshooting for bug reports.

P.S. "Practically no other differences," is not the same as no differences. Anything else you can find that is different, particularly with hardware, could be helpful. Honestly this sounds like an issue you won't be able to fix and most likely must be addressed by the developers. Don't hold your breath though. If it's an issue only affecting one in a billion machines, it may not be worth their time. But you can always try.

Hi,

Thank you for your replies. I am sorry for creating so much confusion using the expression "almost identical". I am an IT professional with 35+ years of experience, including Windows programming, and I've seen a lot of cases. I don't see the cause here being hardware details, because I know the details of how windows are usually opened and closed in the code, and they don't cause an issue like this, if done in the normal way - but of course, I can be very wrong. I just hope that people on these forums continue to help each other friendly instead of trying to be witty. Right?

Anyway, please see a screenshot attached. When I close FreeFileSync, the "ghost" remains on the screen. It is transparent in the middle then, but it does not go away until a reboot. I have not seen a similar issue with another piece of software on this computer.

These two "almost identical, but so very different" computers are connected to two displays via a KVM. So their keyboard, mouse and display settings are identical. Could the use of two display be the culprit, as for the other configuration?

This is not a big issue, please be assured. This is a great freeware piece of software, better than anything I've seen in this genre before. I just wanted to the developers to know and if the users have similar experiences. It seems they have. This does not prevent the use of this tool!
