After restoring the windows image on a new machine it stops working

The "key" or whatnot, is likely tied to a piece of hardware on the (particular) machine, like it's NIC, & when you restored the image to the new machine, it had a different id for the NIC, so the key failed.
Disable the old (or however it works) & see if you can't then get another (or however it works) for the new machine.
