(This) webSite: JavaScript & Cloudflare
FFS forums are now requiring JavaScript to be enabled in ones browser, & the browser must also be "compatible" with Cloudflare.
All browsers (that I know of) can do JS.
Not all browsers can pass "Cloudflare".
Cloudflare works in "Chrome", & whatever else might happen to work.
So yes, at present, it also works in Firefox.
After that, it is anyone's guess.
It does not work in SeaMonkey.
Until very recently it would not work in Pale Moon.
(And only started working in PM after much ...

Cloudflare Verification Loop issues)
Just noting.
And yes, I know, the whole world runs on Chrome (& Cloudflare, & A.I.) ;-).

Everyone and their dog is running (AI) bots now. Not all of them are well-behaved (= rate-limted access, bot identity disclosure) to put it mildly. Since last week they have effectively been DDOS'ing this website, leading to lots of "Internal server error" messages for legitimate users (and legitimate *bots*).
So this is another arms-race. The forum now requires the Cloudflare JS challenge to be solved. This seems to have fixed the problem. For now.

Ah!
So that is the sudden incidental "Verifying you are not a bot" delay ...

I don't like it either, but of course I understand exactly why Zenju has to do it this way. Thank you, Zenju, for finding a way for us regular users to still get to the site even if it involves that scummy middleman stuff. Sometimes you have to make the hard choice to make sure something still works at all in this World Wide Web.

I guess there's now a cookie set, 1 wk?, such that during that period, you don't need to (again) go through clouflare.
That's an improvement :-).

eh...
so today, the forum "home" page itself, https:// freefilesync.org/forum/index.php, wanted JavaScript.
usually, at all times past, it has only been when i'd open a particular forum (in a new tab), where the JS request reared it's head.
anyhow, so today the "home" page wanted it, so i granted it.
then, i clicked - center-clicked - the Login button (such that the login itself opens into a new tab).
& that tab opened with a &sid= link, https:// freefilesync.org/forum/ucp.php?mode=login&redirect=index.php&sid=d63dccd92fa4c6d6c40ad2b0dece9368
(that is typically how i always go about things, on most every site)
to note, that this time, doing so gave a,
"The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again."
message.
what i typically do there is back-arrow & re-enter my un/pw,
which then gives me the same "invalid" message.
what i did then, was to go back to the "home" page tab, & instead of opening the login ("button") in a new tab, clicked it directly, so same tab, which then did allow my un/pw & logged me in.
it seems, on with the "invalid" message page (failed login attempt), had i not back-arrowed, but instead just re-entered my un/pw, that too would have allowed for a successful login.
anyhow...
(& now i've had to log in, repeatedly, any number of times, this session, presumably due to "co-mingling" of &sid's ?)

i don't know, but seem to be going round & round & round, today, with having to log in time & time & time again...
so... i'm logged in, "home" page.
(has &sid)
i open "General Discussion" - in a tab
(shows i'm logged in, & no &sid)
i then open a topic "Site: JavaScript & Cloudflare" in a new tab
- at that point my login is NOT recognized
from within "General Discussion", i CLICK the "Site: JavaScript & Cloudflare" link
- nope that didn't help either, i guess cause ? opening the link (1 step above) in a new tab... logged me out ?
got me, but it is getting (more then) frustrating...
(so let me COPY this post, cause i know i'd better do so, log in, yet again, post it, & say bye, for now)

(just had to log back in, again)
all i have done above, how i go about things, starting from a "home", opening sections in tabs, & opening topics from those sections in yet new tabs, is all normal for me - everywhere.
the way things are acting now is as if the board is wanting to force me to only use a single window, no tabs whatsoever, & to do something (idiotic, IMO) like using the back-arrow (& back again, or whatnot) to traverse the site - without being logged out ? in the interim?
(or, maybe you're pro-actively making changes to the board, whilst i am attempting to post...?)
(& looks like i've got to log in, yet again!)

(logged in above. & logged in, yet again, for this.)
this is really incredible. while i understand the why, the "fix" simply is getting to hard, at the moment.
(& i don't know the "answer".)

1.orig url ("home page") https://freefilesync.org/forum/index.php?sid=024c451953bb64e842dbb281d33079df
open Login in new tab https://freefilesync.org/forum/ucp.php?mode=login&redirect=index.php&sid=6881ba0a84011022671fc6009d3da9c8
- note different &sid, if that matters
login successful https://freefilesync.org/forum/index.php?sid=a68ec9c9d5a9b664747d6e671c5e0c99
- yet another &sid
i now have 2 tabs open, "orig url", & "login sucessful" (which is also now, "home page")
i open Help in a new tab https://freefilesync.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=8
- still logged in
i open General in a new tab https://freefilesync.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=2
- still logged in
if i happen to go to 1.orig url, & hit (browser page) Reload, the page reloads, still does not show i'm logged in, still has that ...79df & sid
if i go back to Help (forum index) page, where it was showing that was logged in, & hit Reload
- i am now logged out (& i am)
this behavior is different from... well at least from the time i was last logged in - before my update of 18 August, to this thread

If I change
1.orig url ("home page") https:// freefilesync.org/forum/index.php?sid=024c451953bb64e842dbb281d33079df
to
1.orig url ("home page") https:// freefilesync.org/forum/index.php
that looks to help - somewhat.
But if you're dealing with a set of pages (tabs), some with &sid= & some without & you happen to click on this rather then that, then again, you're logged out (as i am, currently).
No other board i frequent is in such disrepair (& all have enforced some sort of "protection").
Even this board worked "correctly", until just the last few days.
(Maybe some work in a single window/tab & nothing more, but I don't.
Maybe some never start from prior sessions, but I don't.)

I noticed the same, having to login a few times for it to "stick". It's been fine for three days in a row now, it was every day before that.
It's more than likely something with the CloundFlare integration, if I had to guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just noting that cloudflare spit out some... message, the first number of times when I went to view this site this morning. (Don't know what changed, to let me in?)
