WHY profile

Hey, My wife wants to know why they are called profiles. She believes they should be called tasks. What do you all think?

I agree with your wife. Task: "a piece of work to be done, esp. one done regularly," (Profile isn't incorrect: "a short description of someone or something that gives important and useful details about them: ... a credit or financial profile.").

FWIW: LuckyBackup[1] has profiles that contain tasks. You could have profiles daily, weekly, Each profile would have one or more tasks which contain source/dest directories, and patterns if any. "backup dir to USB drive, but only these files" would be a task. But, the task is contained in a profile that explains something about when/how it's used, why, etc.

I think ffs flattens that heuristic (tasks in profiles could get tedious, too fine-grained. Think of the rules in filters as tasks. It's just a matter of perspective.).

[1] I don't recommend it. It's not very active, and it's wildcard "patterns" don't work reliably. It's just the only other backup software I'm familiar with.
