Hello FreeFileSync Team,
I would like to request a new feature that would improve data safety during synchronization.
Currently, when files are deleted on the source, FreeFileSync can move them to the Windows Recycle Bin. However, I would prefer an option to redirect deleted files to a dedicated folder on the target drive itself, instead of using the system’s Recycle Bin.
Requested feature:
Add an option to create and use a custom “Recycle Bin” folder (e.g. “Deleted Items”) directly on the destination directory.
When files are removed from the source, the corresponding files on the target should be moved into this folder instead of being permanently deleted or moved to the system Recycle Bin.
Ideally, the folder name and location should be configurable.
This would make it easier to review and recover overwritten or deleted items directly on the backup drive, without mixing them with the computer’s regular Recycle Bin.
This feature would be extremely helpful for safer backup workflows and version recovery, especially when working with external backup drives.
Thank you for considering this request and for your great work on FreeFileSync!
Best regards,
Bruno
