I don't know what happened but my PC crashed, most likely when going into the sleep mode without enough disk place. The result is a big crash and lost many files. I had to reinstall windows 11.
I noted that my Freefilesync program was not working any more and I decided to reinstall it. This is done but what do I do with the file of the donation key.

how to install the donation edition when you have the file of the key

You don't need to do anything "extra".
Simply make sure the donation key file is in the same (unzipped) folder as the rest of the FreeFileSync (FFS) install files at the time of installation.
You can check if the installation of the donation edition went OK.
The title bar of the FFS GUI should then show "(Donation Edition)".
Similarly, in the FFS GUI you can go to Help/About, which should then also show the FFS version and "Donation Edition".
