the above folder recently inserted itself permanently into every file name on my backup list.
so the directory that used to be c:\documents\letters is now c:\documents\00freefilesyncjobs\letters.

For every folder I use on my computer.

II can't say when this started, but in the last month I am sure. I was hoping it would go away in the update, but its still here.

In addition to being done with no notice to me it is interfering with some of my macros and other workflow.

is there a fix for this?

Sounds like your selected left/right folders have that entered. Or maybe you have versioning set to go there? You could always create a new config as well
