I do a simple backup (copy) of files from a specific folder on my iMac to an external drive. It's simple in that I do it manually and it is making a mirror of the folder on the iMac to the external. Lately, when I tell it to sync, I get two permission errors. The first states:
Cannot open directory "/Volumes/iTunes Backup/.DocumentRevisions-V100".
EACCES: Permission denied [opendir]
Hitting Ignore leads to Error #2:
Cannot open directory "Volumes/iTunes Backup/.Temporaryltems".
EACCES: Permission denied [opendir]
Hitting Ignore allows the backup to run, seemingly without problems.
Any thoughts?

I would add exclusions for both of those directories. Neither seems useful in a backup scenario
