Sorry in advance because I'm new to this.
When I set up FFS + RTS I was expecting the mirror synchronize to watch for changes and make those changes synchronised between the two folders, however it instead copies the entire selected folder every time there's one change, not simply the affected files only, which also delays it if you then change that file again - you have to wait for the whole synchronise to finish before it immediately synchronises again. I think that could be really impractical for my use case because it absolutely needs to copy changes quickly.
I've also found it's running really slow at times, even for a hard disk (0-2MB/sec). So it seems really poor if when you make even a tiny change, it takes ages to sync because it updates everything in the folder, and not only the specific files. (Specifically in my case it's taking 15+ minutes to sync 2GB). It also seems to be getting stuck on 100% and not closing/finishing.
Am I missing something or misunderstanding how it works? Is what I want possible from the software?

It shouldn't be copying the entire folder every time. It will scan the entire folder, but shouldn't be copying. Performance issues for a hard drive directly connected are going to be outside FFS's hand
