A few desparate comments:
The from-drives are wide open and visible from every program on my computer. The to-drives are wide open, visible from every program on my computer and may be written or modified by about every program on y computer. Why in the world is it impossible for FFS to do anything
with these drives?

It's expected that "subst"-drives are not visible after elevating FFS with admin rights, but they should be visible by default. The question is what are you doing to get "Windows Error Code 1300" and what is the full error message text?

if set, i receive "Windows Error Code 1300"
if not set, every thing works fine, just like expected.
i am not sure what this parameter really means and i must have set it by error.
i am sorry for the inconveniences. Thanks for your concern.
