I suspect MS has done this intentionally to force folks from 2000, XPsp1, and
XPsp2. The same problem is happening now with apps compiled with the latest
C++. Problem is, there are still a lot or folks unwilling or unable to
'upgrade', so using the latest MS tools (unless there's a workaround) will
lock people out of the latest revs... :>(

It's sad that this incompatibility is artificial. Now the burden of fixing it
increases the administrative efforts with each release. Currently it's easy,
but in the long run workarounds are never a good idea...
