FFS hanging when synching trying to create Volume Shadow Copy

Running on Windows 8.1 64bit
Tried versions 6.4, 6.7 and 6.8 so potentially my PC :(

in version 6.8 it actually got to about 7.2% before dying but now only gets to about 0.1%. I couldn't find anyone else with the same problem, so apologies if this is a common problem with an easy fix!

Actual message while frozen is "Creating a Volume Shadow Copy for "\\?\C:\"...

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

If nothing else helps you can disable the Shadow copy functionality in FFS's global settings.
