How to remove history of directory paths in drop down menu?

How to remove history of directory paths in drop down menu? Some of these entries don't exist on my system anymore and some of which I have no plans of using it ever again. They add clutter and I always need to search through the list to re-use the directory path that I want, defeating its purpose of ease of accessibility.
