Hi,

First things first :
- Thank you for this very powerful and useful software.
- I've extensively searched this forum, prior to posting, and did not find any answer. Please don't hesitate to point me to any post I might have missed.
- English isn't my mother language, so please apologize for any mistakes.

A reminder, to understand the question :

The doc says that, to real time sync an usb, it can be monitored as explained here, section
Example: Automatic synchronization when a USB stick is inserted
.

The "Run as service" part of the doc, says that, to launch realtime monitoring at startup, the startup command line should be like:
C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\RealTimeSync.exe" "D:\Backup Projects.ffs_real
Which might translate, for a USB stick:
C:\Program Files\FreeFileSync\RealTimeSync.exe" "[USB-LABEL]\Backup Projects.ffs_real
But unless I'm missing something, if the stick is not present, the command will fail, and RealTimSync won't launch.

Now the questions are:

Q1 : Am I understanding correctly the doc?
Does that mean that, to launch at startup the monitoring of an usb folder, the stick need be inserted in the usb port at startup time?
Q2 : What if several usb folders need be synced: all sticks inserted at startup?
Q3 : Thus, is my understanding correct that for automatic startup of usb monitoring, we'd rather have the .ffs_real file locally, than on the USB folder?

Please don't hesitate to let me know if the questions were not clear.
Thank you for your help and answers.

Best regards.

Q1: You need to store your ffs_real configuration file locally, not in the to be monitored location.
Q2: You probably need multiple ffs_real configuration files and program instances.
Q3: Correct.
