How to get rid of file type icons

Just installed 8.6, and there are now file type icons next to every file in both panes.

This is a waste of space and of no use; how do I get rid of them? I see nothing in the options to control this.

If they're not made optional, I'll go back to the version I'd been using, never update again, and never donate. I was holding off on donating until problems with donation records became "sticky," which appears to have happened, but I don't want useless eye-candy in my tools.

I will check for a new version when I feel like doing so. I don't want to be nagged every time I start the program if I've chosen not to update the last time I started it. How do I turn this off?
