Linux install problem

Running Linux Mint18.1,MATE,64b, with FFS8.5. Have tried installing both of the v8.7 d/l's for Linux(the deb,and the ubuntu's), to no avail. they both pop up an error upon installing notice. Have tried each a couple of times-with fresh d/l's, but same error. Any suggestions? BTW-Cannot update from repository due to "unsupported xenial...". How about an update there, please.

Thank you. It worked like a charm. BTW-I also installed the getdeb PPA.

Hm the getdeb-ppa is still on Version 8.6 but right now FFS is 8.9. The Ubuntu PPA doesn't even have a release for 16.04 thats a little bit frustrating and seems like the project is not that active any more ? What can we do to get back an up to date PPA ?
