Help please? For over a year I've successfully backed up files, currently using Freefilesync 8.10 on windows 10.
Today (23rd March 2017) I noticed a new error message when Freefilesync ran on boot-up:
***************************
"The Versioning Folder will be synchronized as part of a base folder. You may want to exclude it from synchronization via filter.
Versioning folder C:\***\myfiles\backups\
Base folder C:\***\myfiles\backups\
***************************
Why has this started appearing? Has an update of FFS been invisibly installed, that has new error-trapping? I don't think I've changed any folder structure, or FFS settings recently.
Here's my config:
Left side folder C:\***\myfiles\masters\
Right side folder C:\***\myfiles\backups\
Comparison settings: "File Time and Size".
Filter Settings: "*" (ie, all files)
Synchronization settings:
Variant = "Update"
Delete files = "versioning".
Suggestions very welcome!
Thanks
Versioning Folder synchronized as part of base folder

The "problem" is your versioning location is inside/part of your backup location.
This gives strange/undesired results if the Versioning location is not excluded via a filter, especially when using the Mirror sync variant.
See here.
Zenju writes there that the next FFS version will show a warning.
So, it seems he has meanwhile implemented the above and you have updated to that FFS version.
