Different number of files after mirror copy

Hello,

I'm using FreeFileSync to transfer data (about 25GB) between laptop and USB hard drive.

However, after completing mirror copy
I realised number of files wasn't the same (USB HDD had two files less).

I repeated the process, and number of files on the USB HDD was still the same.

Is there any possible explanation for this, and what's the most reliable way
to check what exactly is missing?
