A sync was run with from target(Destination) to source. The target was last run 3 months ago. All files up to that point are gone. Where could they be? Looked in recycle bin but no there. Any ideas? Settings are for recycle bin.

To clarify:
In Jun 2017 FFSync was setup and a sync run from Source to Dest. No sync after that until today
Today a sync was run but from Dest to source so all files from today to the last sync in June seem to have disappeared.
We are wondering where those files may be? All and any help is greatly appreciated.

So we found that since a reverse sync was run the files of dates newer than the target were deleted on the host/source but not in the recycle bin, the files are very difficult to recover. The settings were set to Recycle-bin. Is anyone familiar with this type of behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Would FFS put them somewhere else?

It depends on your "Delete Files" setting in your sync settings (F8).
Apparently your present setting is Recycle-bin.
If you would have selected Versioning, recovery would probably have been easier,
as then the file-tree structure can/will be maintained.
