Ubuntu 17.10. as a fresh install, not an in-place upgrade, so no leftover junk.
canonical, canonical-partner, community-maintained, and restricted repositories are all enabled.
gcc-6 - version 6.3.0-12ubuntu2 is installed.
libstdc++6 and libstdc++-6-dev are both present.
There are no versions of libstdc++ with anything remotely like ".so.6" in the repositories, so that part is questionable information. A search for it returns no results.

Next steps??

No such file like "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6" or similar, but "libstdc++6 and libstdc++-6-dev are both present"? Are you on 32 bit?

I am using Ubuntu 17.04 64-bit and neither "Download FreeFileSync 9.6 Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit" or "Download FreeFileSync 9.6 Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit" work at all.
they throw up "./FreeFileSync: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.11' not found (required by ./FreeFileSync)" error.
I am using "Download FreeFileSync 9.6 Debian 9.2 64-bit" as it works correctly on "Ubuntu 17.04 64-bit"

on Ubuntu 17.04 64-bit system
"Download FreeFileSync 9.6 Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit" throws up "./FreeFileSync: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.11' not found (required by ./FreeFileSync)" error.
"Download FreeFileSync 9.6 Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit" throws up error "FreeFileSync: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" error.
"Download FreeFileSync 9.6 Debian 9.2 64-bit" throws up no errors at all .the program appears to run correctly as far as I can tell.works for me.
