Why is a ._ preceding a number of files after being synced

Hello, hoping someone can explain this; Some files are being displayed starting with a '._' on both sides after an update sync has successfully completed, with a "do nothing" action indicator. Same is presented when a "Compare" function is invoked. Not all files, only some. Update syncing between two USB drives. What does this signify? Experimenting with FreeFile Sync vs 9.7 on a Mac Mavericks OS.

I think I might have the answer, but not 100% sure: My files are mostly image files saved on a Mac with Mavericks version OS. Some of them have had tags added to them in the Mac file information area. While all have keywords in the file metadata, Mac can add another layer of tags outside of the normal file metadata area. It is possible that those files with the Mac file information added, which includes file tags, are being identified with the '._' prefix in the FreeFileSync window. The '._' prefix is virtual, it is not physically added to the filename. If I am not correct here, please let me know here...
