Trying to backup the User folder in windows 10, using latest version of FFS
when i run "Compare" for first time i get this error:
Cannot set directory locks for the following folders:
"C:\Users\Default.migrated"
Cannot write file "C:\Users\Default.migrated\sync.ffs_lock".
Error Code 5: Access is denied. [CreateFile]
What is the resolution?

The error message seems pretty self-explanatory:
FFS can not create the mentioned file, because it was denied access to do so.
So, the user-credentials under which you are running FFS apparently do not have
write permission for said folder.

Hi Ubin
C:\Users\Default.migrated\ is a leftover of any Windows 10 major update.
Probably you may delete it without loosing nothing important, but to be sure, open it and check for yourself.
If User Account Control ask for permission answer yes.
After giving permission, a one time only procedure, the FFS Access denied error should also be resolved.
Anyway probably you will end up deleting it.

Hmm, running FFS as admin, not sure why it doesnt allow access...The error message seems pretty self-explanatory:

Hmm, i thought that folder contained the user files, but it doesnt seem to , BUT that said the username that i am trying to back up doesn't exist in c:/Users there is one called info and one called public.
The Info file seems to contain the user files.
But i dont understand why the user name isnt appearing...is something different in W10 relative to W7 (which i am used to using FFS with.)

Probably the user has been renamed at some point, but the folder is never renamed.
Is by design.
In File explorer, in the address bar it is shown with the current name, but if you put the mouse cursor into it to select the text it is shown with its name on disk.

I was facing the same problem. There is a switch on the card reader to LOCK the card and it is easy to turn it on without knowing. Check it.
