FFS 5.22 chokes on large file & hangs up 64-bit WIN 7

I have been trying to create a new folder on a differents drive, by hitting "ignore" when FFS reports that the target folder doesn't exist. Up until now this has always worked just fine.

But the problem now is that FFS creates the new folder, and copies all the files into it, but then chokes on the largest file (1,166,051 KB) which is left in the newly-created folder with the suffix .ffs_TMP added to its name -- and then not only does FFS crash, it also hangs up my 64-bit Windows 7 system to the point that I can't get out of it by any means other than shutting off the power. There seems to be no other way to kill whatever endless loop FFS is trapped in. (The loop won't allow me to start up the Task Manager; WhatsRunning will start up and show me what's going on, but is unable to kill the process.)

The problem repeats every time I try it. So, some questions:

(1) Does the problem originate in Windows or in FFS?

(2) If it's in FFS; I'm running FFS 5.22. Has this problem been fixed in later versions?

(3) A second file -- 1,078,531 kb -- apparently copies over without any problems. Can anybody please narrow down the size limit?

Thanks very much for your help!

A normal desktop application like FreeFileSync can never crash the operating system (except for OS or driver bugs). OS bugs are extremely rare, so 99% of the time driver bugs are the cause. With regards to OS crashes during file copying the main culprits are buggy USB3 drivers or faulty anti virus software.
