Hello!
Just updated to Mojave with a clean installation, installed my donation version of FFS and got the subject error (see attached image) I tried to change the permission of the file to RW but program still complains.
To add more fire to the problem, the non-donated version works fine.
Error code 13 Permission Denied on FFS launch

What are this file's permissions? Are you able to reproduce this when you delete the file and reinstall again?

After overwrite the Donation Edition with the normal version, then delete normal version and re-installing the Donation Edition, seems being working.
Permsssions was no access for everyone, and r/w for system. No other permissions were in the file. Before install normal version I changed everyone to r/w but error continued.
Now, after removing download version and re-install Donation Edition the folder is empty and FFS says it is Donation Edition.
PS: You have an email from me with the same issue. You can ignore it, as it seems solved.

Could this be related to "umask", e.g. somehow "umask 0077" was set during the first installation? This would at least explain the strange permissions.

I've got the same problem with the donation version. Removed version 10.4 and install Version 10.5 over it. However this resulted in the same message. During my first installations of FFS I did not change file permissions.
And yes I changed to full disk permission in the security settings.
Hint:
After deleting the Library.../FreeFileSync/ (which had read rights for everyone) and reinstalling v10.5 donation version everything worked as expected.
